Summary: Finally! The Director's Cut of Lethal Weapon 2 is out on DVD. I was hoping that the initial DVD release would include the restored moments, but I was set up for disappointment. Warner Brothers finally came around, though, so I've less reason to gripe now.Although I thought the second outing's theme was kinda preachy (the same deal would happen with the next two sequels), with a plot that involves an apartheid-supporting South African drug smuggling ring being protected under diplomatic immunity, it had some great action sequences. Who could forget the stilt-house takedown or the obligatory final fight between Riggs and the South African henchman? It also had some surprisingly amusing moments with LW newcomer Joe Pesci as informant and former mob accountant Leo Getz. His 'What They Do To You At The Drive-Thru' riff is to me the most memorable moment of all the Lethal Weapons, even more than the bomb-rigged toilet scene. Boy, Murtaugh's house doesn't seem to catch a break at all, does it? And, this being the Director's Cut and all, there's also the restored moments, like when Leo's figuring out out the stilt house's address using a complex numerology system. There's also the new snippet following the opening chase, where an LAPD mechanic puts Murtaugh's station wagon back together with a temporary hood, windshield, and duct tape. Priceless. Like the other two 'Lethal' TDC discs, this one doesn't have too many extra features. Just a theatrical trailer, a featurette showing how some of LW2's action sequences were set up, and cast & crew filmographies. Oh well, guess I just gotta throw on 'Lethal Weapon 3' instead...
